Abstract

While there are several measures for node centralities, such as betweenness and degree, few centrality measures for local centralities in weighted networks have been suggested. This study developed a generalized centrality measure for calculating local centralities in weighted networks. Neighbor centrality, which was suggested in this study, is the generalization of the degree centrality for binary networks and the nearest neighbor centrality for weighted networks with the parameter α. The characteristics of suggested measure and the proper value of parameter α are investigated with 6 real network datasets and the results are reported.

Abstract

This study was designed to propose library privacy guidelines to be applicable in any library without distinguishing library types. Individual libraries can refine, modify, and use them to fit their situation, using the guidelines as a base. The library privacy protection guidelines developed in this study are composed of purposes, definitions, scope of privacy, law and policy, general information, the library’s job performance on the handling of personal information, and library subcontractors. The development objectives and utilization direction of the library privacy guidelines developed in this study are meant to provide a guide for change according to the amended provision of library “Privacy Act” implementation, optimization of library Privacy Directive, a reflection of the relevant laws and regulations, and the standardization-oriented library privacy guidelines.

Abstract

Big data refers to dataset whose size is beyond the ability of typical database software tools to capture, store, manage, and analyze. And now it is considered to create the new opportunity in every industry. The purpose of this study is to develop of big data services in public library for improved library services. To this end, analysed the type of library big data and needs of stockholders through the various methods such as deep interview, focus group interview, questionnaire. At first step, we defined the 16 big data service models from interview with librarians, and LIS professions. Second step, it was considered necessity, timeliness, possibility of development. We developed the final two services called on ‘Decision Support Services for Public Librarians’ and ‘Book Recommendation Services for Users.’

Abstract

It is useful to find something valuable for researching through literature based discovery. Swanson’s ABC model, known as literature based discovery, suggests the relationship between entities undiscovered yet. This study tries to find the valid relationship between entities by referring to citation which connects articles on similar topic. We collect citation from references in articles, and extract important concepts in titles and abstracts through text mining techniques. We reproduce the relationship between fish oil and Raynaud’s disease, which is known as one of Swanson’s works, and compare the results with entities identified from traditional approach.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of librarian’s empowerment and organizational commitment on organizational effectiveness in libraries. The subjects of this study were 148 librarians of 10 libraries in Jeollabuk-do in accordance to purposeful sampling of nonprobability sampling. The statistics program that was used to achieve the purpose was SPSS pc+ 20.0. The statistics methods were used one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation analysis, and multiple regression test. The following conclusion were drawn from the research procedures and data analysis. First, the librarian’s empowerment level and organizational effectiveness make a difference by age level. But the librarian’s organizational commitment make no difference by age level. Second, the librarian’s empowerment level make a difference by marital status. But the librarian’s organizational commitment and effectiveness make no difference by marital status. Third, the librarian’s empowerment level make a difference by career in present librarian. But the librarian’s organizational commitment and effectiveness make no difference by career in present librarian. Fourth, Very a high correlation is influence factor and all of the empowerment, competence factor, and all of the empowerment. Fifth, the organizational effectiveness is affected 9.3% by librarian’s empowerment, 5.6% by librarian’s organizational commitment.

Abstract

This study described the results of converting RDB to RDF ontology by each of R2RML method and Non-R2RML method. This study measured the size of the converted data, the conversion time per each tuple, and the response speed to queries. The STNet, a structured terminology dictionary based on RDB, was served as a test bed for converting to RDF ontology. As a result of the converted data size, Non-R2RML method appeared to be superior to R2RML method on the number of converted triples, including its expressive diversity. For the conversion time per each tuple, Non-R2RML was a little bit more faster than R2RML, but, for the response speed to queries, both methods showed similar response speed and stable performance since more than 300 numbers of queries. On comprehensive examination it is evaluated that Non-R2RML is the more appropriate to convert the dynamic RDB system, such as the STNet in which new data are steadily accumulated, data transformation very often occurred, and relationships between data continuously changed.

Abstract

This study aims at a trend of research topics on university library. This study analyzed the contents of the study, under the theme of university library, published on four academic society journals, related to library and information science, from 2000 to 2014, such as Journal of the Korean Society for Library and Information, Journal of Korean Library and Information Science Society, Journal of the Korean Society for Information Management, and Journal of the Korean Biblia Society for Library and Information Science. As a result of investigation, of total 1,023 researches, the research on university library was performed (332 researches, 32.5%), next to the research on public library (418 researches, 40.9%) in frequency. The concernment themes of university library research were ‘management of library’ (95 researches, 28.6%), ‘information science’ (76 researches, 22.9%), ‘library service’ (31 researches, 9.3%) in order. Major research methods applied to university library research were questionnaire investigation (112 researches, 33.7%), case investigation (40 researches, 12.0%), interview investigation (50 researches, 15.1%), and other methods (132 researches, 39.8%) in order. The objects, classified with academic system, on university library research, were four year university library 244 researches (73.5%), two year university library (6 researches, 1.8%), and other university library (82 researches, 24.7%). The researcher dispersion was, in the case of one person research, professor (136 researches, 41%), librarian (35 researchers, 10.5%), and lecturer (14 researches, 4.2%) in order. In the case of group researches, the research dispersion was professor /librarian (53 researches, 16%), professor/ graduate school student (27 researches, 8.1%), and professor/professor (19 researches, 5.7%) in order.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate the characteristics of library and information science (LIS) field in Asian countries, focusing on the case of Taiwan. In order to conduct this study, the obtained statistical data and co-authorship networks based on eight major LIS journals in Taiwan were analyzed and compared to the case of South Korea. In Taiwan like Korea, papers published by a single-author and 2 to 3 co-authors were the most common. The centrality analysis showed that leading professors in the national-level university in Taiwan have strong and distinctive ties in the network. Additional unique characteristics pertaining to collaboration in Taiwan include the existence of journals focused on practical aspects in the field of LIS and active research participation involving librarians who publish papers in these journals.

Abstract

The focus of traditional evaluations of ontologies is largely performance-based. A comparison of a new ontology with well-established ones, testing of ontologies in different applications, as well as any judgment of an ontology’s appropriateness and relatedness to source data heavily rely on what results that ontology seems to manifest. This study, on the other hand, is an attempt to evaluate the quality of a particular ontology as manifested by its structure, representation, and interoperability. To that end, major categories of quality evaluations were first identified through an extensive survey of literature. Evaluation questions were formulated from these categories using the Delphi method and were validated by ontology experts. The entire process produced a set of 53 evaluation questions, which was then employed to test the quality of a newly-developed smartphone ontology.

Abstract

This paper describes the process and methodology followed in developing the Android-based LG Sangnam Audiobook service and an evaluation of its usefulness to the public. The methods included a survey of user needs, analysis of usage statistics, and user interviews. The study found that visually impaired users: 1) were greatly interested and willing to use smartphones if there were no barrier in cost and access; 2) preferred downloads to streaming services; 3) did not mind performance differences between real and TTS (text-to-speech) voices; 4) showed marked differences in book preferences according to age, 5) made about 14,000 downloads in 2014; and 6) indicated bookmarking and moving between pages and tables of content as the most important functions in using audiobooks.
